'Are these my size??' she asks.. err.. 'Is that my reflection on CCTV?
One of the funniest things i heard from my sis yesterday was that whilst watching coverage of the disturbances she saw a woman, running away with a box of trainers from a 'store' stop, open the box, and try them on!.. who does that.. in the height of theivery??
What was she going to do if they didn't fit, take them back?:)
People sometimes do and say the strangest things when high on adrenalin
Like forget there are CCTV cameras all over the place
Another lady when being interviewed said something along the lines of, 'there's been a lot of investment in the area... there's even a new Asda that people are really excited about!' hmmm yummy, gotta get me some 'George couture'
To be fair she said a lot more but that's what made me laugh..
When asked why she thought it had happened she began quite strongly with... 'Well I think its..... 'well maybe it's because.. but it could be... but then again... errr.. to be honest.. i dunno!!'

I read about that and the first thing that came to mind was "Ghetto!". cue giggling fits at whatever you hear or read about, you have to laugh sometimes else you'll stay crying.
ReplyDeleteI remember going to a rave in Tottenham back in the day, barely settled in before gunshots rang out. We were covered in ceiling powder as we ran out. As I wondered how to get back home I swore never to rave there again, the people are too mad
Oh our black communities! how can we dig ourselves out of this rot?
I had a giggle when i heard some people had looted Iceland.. what next.. Lidl.. Netto.. poundland..lol
ReplyDeleteYes.. sometimes you've got to smile indeed..
Were those shots in approval of a tune that was being played?? like a 21 gun salute or something?? lol..
glad you made it out.. people crazy.. sometimes they act like they've never heard of 'ricohet'
I think the rot is systemic..
How can we dig ourselves out?.. standing up, speaking up, educating ourselves, recognising and confronting inequality and societys race based discriminatory practices whether we're directly affected by them or not. lovin' a little more, helping others more, understanding our history and culture, yet not allowing the past to dictate our future. rebuiling and strengthening family, identity, self worth.. err to be honest... I dunno!!
I suspect there are many things we can be doing..( I do believe it can be done, and will be done!)
i think many have been worn down by the system of oppression, although many have also done and are doing 'okay'.
However, some may say we are experiencing the McDonaldization of society, and have a x factor approach to success/life in general. Fast and loose. I want it all, I want it now. I want what he/she has.. just.. bigger :)
* for some reason i feel compelled to remind myself of the seven deadly sins.. hmmm which of them can I ignore today lol
lol Netto, even Nandos in Brixton was smashed. Nandos you know! *smh* check this link out, hover mouse over the pictures - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/8689053/London-riots-before-and-after-the-destruction-in-Tottenham-Brixton-and-Enfield.html
ReplyDeleteits like the Katrina riots, with all those people wheeling away trolleys of looted electronic goods. didn't they notice the rising water?
wish it was a selector wheel up. transpired it was gunmen out to get our "gracious" host (transpired our host was a "Mark Duggan" type figure (transpired ... stop Obi!)). Tottenham has been bubbling for sometime. Heard Hackney One Carnival has been cancelled.
of all of the seven deadlies avoid "wrath", choose one of the organic ones ;)
Checked the link..gosh..the post office, the carpet shop.. what an utter mess. wow , broken windows, and burned out buildings.. places looking a mess in the cold light of day..
ReplyDeleteprobably for the best to put Hackney 1 on hold..shame though
i guess we'll see what happens over the coming days
