Capitalism scares me.. but are we all capitalists?..ft interview with Dr Cornel West

Maybe it's not capitalism that scares me.. maybe it's obscene greed

Does economic suffering divide people or unite people?

  1. capitalism as a true economic and social ideology is a fallacy. I would say we are all mixed-ideology economists, so on one hand the desire to own the means of production is strong but on the other the communal spirit inherent in all of us is omnipresent and tempers the lone wolf instinct. Survival of the fittest works only in the wild (and other places I wont get into :)

Its impossible to operate without government as the Neo-liberal capitalists (hypocrites of the worst kind) would have you believe. Their agenda drives corporate greed and creates so much financial obfuscation. When in trouble they cry for bail-outs, to big to fail and all, but wont pay an iota of taxes due, constantly manipulating public opinion and lobbying to block public spends - look at Washington. The landscape is so distorted to the point of mud. So it's capitalism but not the way we understand it. I yet to find anyone who can clearly explain the current "economic suffering" we are facing, yet the Goldman Sachs of the world are still cashing in on financial bets, amassing stupid profits in the process. how is that? Who is accountable? no one

people are slowly waking up ...

  2. Faux social conscience capitalists.
As our government pursues a neo liberal agenda, society is going down the toilet.
Confusion reigns. Worryingly, I don’t fully understand the current economic crisis, and am yet to have those in the know explain it in a way I can understand, which is, I suspect; as they would prefer it.

People are waking up, as fortunately there are some who are willing to speak out, and share what has for many years been much guarded knowledge.
I think the desire for ownership is a natural one, but so, as you rightly say, is communal spirit.
When the recent London disturbances occurred Cameron and others spoke of a moral crisis. Well...the economic meltdown is (in my opinion) far more worthy to be viewed as a moral crisis...at the very least they should sit side by side.
Which for me poses, and interesting question. Exactly who is responsible for the morality of a nation?
Greedy capitalists have been subjecting those in developing countries to a life of poverty for years I reckon. They seem happy to do the same here, and the morality of it all is rarely mentioned, rarely questioned by Cameron & Co.
But morality is subjective - or is it?
Still – we’re all in this together right?..
I hope so.. because as I said.. makes me scared all this stuff.. one of the reasons i don’t watch horror movies!!
    Such a girl
    Welcome back dude!
